Flooring Calculator
Calculate flooring, tile or carpet needed for any room with waste factor.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much extra flooring should I buy?
Straight lay (parallel to walls): add 10% for waste. Diagonal lay (45° angle): add 15%. Herringbone or complex patterns: add 20–25%. Always buy slightly more than needed — running out mid-project and needing a second batch risks a colour or batch number mismatch.
How do I calculate flooring for an L-shaped room?
Divide the L-shaped floor into two rectangles, calculate the area of each separately, and add them together. For example: a room that is 6m × 4m with a 2m × 2m cut-out corner = (6×4) − (2×2) = 24 − 4 = 20 m². Always sketch the room first.
How many tiles do I need for a room?
Tile count = Floor area ÷ single tile area, rounded up to a whole number, plus waste percentage. For a 20 m² room using 600×600mm (0.36 m²) tiles: 20 ÷ 0.36 = 56 tiles, plus 10% = 62 tiles. This calculator does this automatically with your chosen tile size.
