Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ideal weight for my height?

There is no single ideal weight — healthy weight is a range, not a number. For a 170cm adult, the healthy BMI range (18.5–24.9) corresponds to roughly 53–72 kg. The Devine formula (a clinical standard) gives 60.5 kg for men and 55.0 kg for women at 170cm as a baseline. Enter your height to see your specific range across all methods.

Which ideal weight formula is most accurate?

Different formulas were developed for different purposes. The Devine formula (1974) was created for medical dosing calculations. The Robinson formula (1983) is similar but gives slightly lower values for men. The Miller formula (1983) tends to give higher "ideal" weights. BMI range is the broadest. No single formula is universally best — viewing the range across all methods gives the most useful picture.

How accurate are ideal weight formulas?

Ideal weight formulas are rough guidelines, not precise targets. They don't account for muscle mass, bone density, or body composition. A muscular 80 kg person may be healthier than the formula's "ideal" of 70 kg. Use these numbers as a ballpark reference, not a goal weight — how you feel, your energy levels, and health markers matter far more.

Does ideal weight differ by age?

Standard ideal weight formulas are designed for adults and don't explicitly adjust for age. However, maintaining the lower end of the healthy BMI range becomes harder and less important as people age. Some research suggests that slightly higher BMI (up to 27) may be protective in older adults. Always discuss weight goals with a healthcare provider.
