Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I compare unit prices at the grocery store?

Larger packs are not always cheaper per unit. Supermarkets deliberately display different sizes in different ways to obscure the best deal. Unit price comparison strips away packaging and marketing to show the true cost per gram, ml, or item — making it trivial to spot genuine value vs clever pricing.

How are different units compared fairly?

All weights (g, kg, oz, lb) are normalised to grams before comparison. All volumes (ml, L, fl oz, cups) are normalised to millilitres. This ensures a 500g bag and a 1.2kg bag are compared on exactly the same per-gram basis, regardless of how the price label is presented.

Is bulk buying always the best value?

Not always. Bulk packs can have the best unit price but still be a poor choice if: (1) you won't use all of it before it expires, (2) you don't have storage space, or (3) the quality is lower. Unit price is one factor — wastage and practicality must be considered too.
