Frequently Asked Questions

How is overtime calculated in this tool?

Overtime is calculated on two thresholds: daily (hours beyond the daily limit, default 8 hours) and weekly (hours beyond the weekly limit, default 40 hours). For example, if you work 10 hours on Monday, 2 of those are daily overtime. If your weekly total exceeds 40 hours, additional hours are flagged as weekly overtime.

What does the auto lunch deduction feature do?

When enabled, a configurable unpaid break (default 30 minutes) is automatically deducted from any work period at or above a set threshold (default 6 hours per day). This mirrors how many employers handle mandatory break deductions rather than requiring staff to clock out for lunch.

How do I calculate my weekly pay from hours worked?

Enter your hourly rate in the pay rate field. The calculator multiplies regular hours by your rate and overtime hours by 1.5× (or your configured overtime multiplier). For example, 45 hours at $20/hr = 40 × $20 + 5 × $30 = $800 + $150 = $950 gross. This does not account for taxes or deductions.

Does this work for overnight shifts?

Yes — if your clock-out time is earlier than your clock-in time, the calculator automatically treats it as an overnight shift spanning midnight. For example, clocking in at 22:00 and out at 06:00 is correctly calculated as 8 hours.
